From early morning, competitors laced up for singles and doubles matches across a range of age groups and skill levels. The round-robin format in preliminary rounds kept the tempo brisk and the crowd on its toes. What stood out most was not just the competitive edge, but the mutual respect between players—high fives across nets, shared water bottles, and a lot of good-natured teasing.
The championship finals in the afternoon were a true showcase. In a gripping men’s singles final, local favorite Kai Wallens edged out Daniel Rogers in a match had spectators excited.
Meanwhile, the women’s doubles brought both flair and fierce baseline rallies, with seasoned duo Linda Turner and Charlotte Hurst clinching the title after a battle against the formidable duo Abigail Harland and Tamsin Brand.
While the tennis was the star, the sidelines held their own charm. A sausage sizzle near Court 1, with kids dashing about with racquets far too large for them reminded everyone why events like this matter. They're as much about building community as they are about crowning champions.
As the sun dipped low behind the eucalyptus trees, medals were handed out with cheers and laughter. For the Research Tennis Club, that Sunday wasn’t just another day—it was a celebration of effort, heart, and the joy of coming together through sport.
