Pickleball comes to Research Tennis Club

Are you looking for a fun and exciting way to stay fit and healthy? Do you love playing tennis but want to try something new and different?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you should definitely check out Pickleball, a new offering from Research Tennis Club!

Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. It is played on a court similar to a tennis court, but smaller, with a net that is lower than a tennis net. The game is easy to learn and can be enjoyed by people of all ages and skill levels. You can play singles or doubles using a special paddle and a plastic ball with holes.

Pickleball is not only fun, but also good for your health. It can improve your cardiovascular fitness, agility, balance, coordination, and reflexes. It can also help you burn calories, reduce stress, and make new friends. Pickleball is a great way to spice up your routine and challenge yourself in a friendly and supportive environment.

Research Tennis Club is proud to offer Pickleball as one of its many activities for members and guests. We host regular sessions, currently available Monday mornings at 9.30am and Wednesday evenings at 7.00pm. Bookings are limited for Wednesday night sessions and are essential. Sessions are planned around availability of players and courts, with the opportunity for members to play anytime. Paddles are available, but we encourage you to bring your own. Experienced players can teach you the basics or help you improve your game. Whether you are a beginner or an expert, you will find Pickleball at Research Tennis Club to be a rewarding and enjoyable experience.

So what are you waiting for? Grab your paddle or use ours and join the pickle ball craze today! You will be glad you did!
Join as a Pickleball member and get one year of included court hire and equipment use (except balls). Regular club members can use their existing membership.

Correct Footwear

There have been a number of complaints recently about slipping on the courts.

For a firm footing to play tennis, the proper shoes with a herringbone pattern are essential. These are available from Sports First in Eltham, plus many other good sporting supplies shops.

Courts 4 and 5 Renovation

Courts 4 and 5 have had a major renovation. A great shout out to Peter Sardi, Rob Solar, George Cochran, Shane Kirn and Hugh Stubley for helping with the
repairing of the Court concrete surfaces.
If it wasn’t for their help, the project would not have been completed until late November and a blow out in the cost of replacing the courts to the club.

RTC 365 Challenge

Hi, my name is George and I have set myself a target of 365 hours of tennis practice, outside of competition tennis. I need volunteers to help me!

If you are interested in maintaining or rebuilding your tennis skills or if are just new to tennis, maybe we could help each other out whilst having fun playing tennis.

I am also the owner & operator of a restringing business - RacquetScience.
For every 30 hours you can spare over the 365 Challenge period, I will restring your racquet for free.

I am not a coach and there are no “hidden costs” associated with this event - just exercise and sociable company. I look forward to hearing from you if this sounds like something you would like to be part of.

Who knows, maybe some of you might even chase down 365 hours yourself.

Let’s give it a go!

I will be running a WhatsApp Group called “RTC 365 Challenge” as a place to negotiate suitable hours, my mobile number is 0438 878 686.

The RTC 365 Challenge runs from 1st November 2024 - 31st October 2025.

A Letter of Appreciation from Diamond Creek TC

Hi All
Just received an email from Diamond Creek Tennis Club showing their appreciation for our offer to use our courts.
Which wasn’t required.
Mike

Hi Mike,

This is a courtesy email to say thank you to Research TC for the kind offer to support Diamond Creek TC with court hire during the Spring 2024 season.

Obviously, through my lack of contact, this requirement has not eventuated. As you may be aware, we have incurred setback after setback with the timing of the proposed work. Our court upgrade is now due to start early in November and is expected to be completed prior to the Autumn 25 season commencing.

Our club is hopeful of not requiring assistance for this matter in the new season.

Please pass on our sincerest regards to your club and committee for your support.

Regards
Geoff Rolfe
